Hi all,
Mine is a 1998 UZJ100 (Domestic model) It has the A442F machine trans.

I bought my LC in a non running status with a bad trans.

I imported a used trans from the UK. They informed me that the trans they supplied came from an "Amazon MK 3" which was an "import" and had the same engine equally mine.

Ever since I started using my LC (with this trans installed) the speedo reads very low. I tried swapping the speed sensor from the internally damaged trans which was originally on my vehicle. (Both that and the sensor on the used trans I installed accept the same ratio eleven:31) even with the sensors swapped, the problem is still the same.

I'k assuming the vehicle the trans came from in the UK, had the speedo in MPH. My speedo existence domestic is in KMPH only I guess that change is programmed into the speedo itself and that should not matter.

Is there a fashion the dealer tin re-programme the speedo ?
Could information technology be that the previous possessor took the speedo needle out and put information technology back incorrect ? (it does go to zero when the vehicle is at rest)

What could be wrong hither ?

Starting time off, Welcome to the lath!

Assuming you are in Commonwealth of australia ? Or Japan (the simply place with a existent "Domestic" LC100)?

Give united states an thought of how much "as well low". Is information technology a little less than one-half consistently indicating a MPH/KPH conversion fault ?

Did you pull the speed sensor "driven gear" located merely under the sensor for both units? or just the sensor itself?

Howdy,

I alive in Sri Lanka. My vehicle was one used in Japan and and so imported to Sri Lanka.

I can't say exactly what the error is but it seems to read much lower than the bodily road speed.
I have driven it parallel with a vehicle which has a known authentic speedo and confirmed that the LC speedo reads very low.

I must run information technology with a GPS speedo and see what the error is like.

I doubt it is an MPH/KMPH error.
The speed sensor itself has been mutual through many series of LC100 as well as with other Toyotas.... even cars (all using the sensor with exactly the same office number)

Hence I do non recall a LC100 with a MPH speedo used a different sensor to one with a KMPH speedo.
Besides the speedos came in dissimilar max speed ratings... Mine is 180 KMPH max. I have seen some with 220 and 240. I guess the MPH units came in different max readings too... I doubt each 1 of those used a different sensor.

When I pulled out the speed sensors from the 2 transmissions, they came out with their plastic driven gears. Both gears are marked 11 31.

Does the speed sensor send its signal direct to the speedo or does information technology go through some other unit ?

Normally on other vehicles, cruise control volition only switch on afterwards like 60KMPH. On this, when the vehicle is traveling over 60 (but the speedo reads forty or less) cruise tin be switched on. Does this mean the sensor is really sending the correct signal but the speedo itself is malfunctioning ?

Since the transmission is what was changed information technology seems that is where the problem probably is.

HI Guys...

And so I finally got a GPS speedo and drove the vehicle comparing the GPS and the speedo on the vehicle.

The result is interesting !!!

My Speedo is a Kilometer per hr unit as the vehicle is a Doemstic ane. It reads upto a maximum of 180 Kmph

According to the GPS, the speedo is reading in Miles perfectly !! meaning...
when the speedo needle points to 20Kmph, the vehicle is actually doing 20 MPH !! when it points to 40KMph the vehicle is actually doing 40 MPH and and then on.

The trip meter and milage counter likewise tally perfectly in miles.... when I re gear up the trip meter to cipher and bulldoze it, the number shown on the trip meter (which should really be in kilometers) tallies in Miles to the altitude traveled.

The speedo sensor from the original trans together with the driven gear has been fitted to the United kingdom trans which is on the car. Both the original sensor driven gear and the ane removed from the UK trans had the same markings anyway (11 and 31)

what could be causing this event ?
Is there some other sensor or control unit attached to the trans which adapts the signal of the speedo sensor before sending it to the speedo itself ?

Please help.
